Top tips for temporary workers
Being a good temporary worker boils down to having top communication skills so you can make yourself heard in a new environment, in a non-aggressive way, believes Clare Francis. Here are her top tips:
- Build up as many skills as possible and make sure they are up-to-date. Very often an employer will use temps to do work when they do not have appropriate skills among their own workforce.
- Use your initiative - if you don't have anything to do, offer to help someone
- If you are given a lot of work - check what is priority and in what order you should work
- Arrive on time
- Don't misuse your time phoning chatting to friends on the phone or surfing the Internet
- Find out who the key personnel are, you should at least know the name of the managing director
- Learn who signs your time sheet or invoice!
